Hello, MediaTemple! Goodbye 1and1!

Just a few minutes ago I finally decided that paying an extra 10 bucks a month for MediaTemple hosting would be worth it, since the GMWiki has far outgrown its measly 100Mb database by about 50Mb, and 1and1 oversells their hosting like its gasoline..or..something. Their service sucks too.

As of writing, wm161.net is still hosted on 1and1 servers, but I’ll be moving things over in stages. The first thing to move will be the GMWiki as it desperately needs the (free) 4G of database space. After that, I’ll move around all my hotlinked images to other hosting places, since (mt)’s AUP states that hotlinking images doesn’t fly with them. Finally, I’ll move the rest of wm161.net and the associated properties over.

Its a new era!

1and1 performance is actually quite good. I started on 1and1, and the performance was never bad, but since it got badmouthed a lot, i moved over to dreamhost. The performance of Dreamhost was absolutely horrendous, like a terrible nightmare where an old hag is sitting on your throat plucking our your eyebrows. And so I moved over to Media Temple. The jury is still out on this one, but so far I’m not impressed.
